Vehicle recall info added to MOT digital services

MOT testers can now tell a customer if their vehicle has an outstanding safety recall

Vehicle recall info added to MOT digital services

Real-time vehicle recall information will be added to the MOT test, following changes introduced on Wednesday 19 July.

The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will add the service to the MOT Testing Service (MTS), the car’s vehicle MOT history, MOT reminders and MOT certificates.

This follows an agreement from major manufacturers such as Ford, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and Volkswagen to share their data. As as result, testers and motorists will have access to around 47 percent of the most recent recall data.

For the companies that haven’t agreed to data sharing, existing SMMT data will be used, but this won’t be shown on the MOT certificate.

Chris Price, DVSA’s head of MOT policy, said: “I’m really pleased that we can announce this latest improvement to our MOT digital services. We want to improve safety recall rectification rates. Providing ‘live’ recall data, and making it more available to motorists will further help everyone to keep vehicles safe to drive on Britain’s roads.”

The changes will be rolled out in phases. Real-time recall data is now visible on the MTS and MOT certificates, but from August, testers will be able to alert a customer if there’s an outstanding recall on their car.

From August 16, the online MOT history service will also include information on outstanding recalls when a customer enters a vehicle registration number.

The list of companies that have agreed to share data includes:

  • Ford
  • Honda
  • Hymer
  • MAN Trucks
  • Mercedes-Benz cars and vans
  • MV Agusta
  • Toyota
  • Volkswagen Group
