REMA TIP TOP (RTT), one of the biggest specialists in the world for the repair of bicycle, car, commercial vehicle and motorcycle tyres, has published a video on solvent-free tyre repairs with its M-RCF system.
With standard patches, solvents are released directly at the workplace, which means protection measures are necessary.
However, RTT’s M-RCF repair patches are completely solvent-free and are suitable for heat presses, autoclaves and for large vulcanisation equipment.
Speaking in an earlier video, REMA TIP TOP’s product line manager, Detlef Witt said: “They can be used in hot vulcanisation starting from 98ºC.
“In the special warming box, known as the RCF system box, the selected patch can be heated to 60ºC within seven minutes.

“During the warming phase the user cleans the contact surface in the tyre and roughens it with a grinding ring.
“Then the warm patch is placed on the contact surface within the tyre and pressed on without rapping air.
“Now the tyre can pass through other processes before it is vulcanised.
“The period before vulcanisation must not exceed 14 days.
“The special binding rubber of M-RCF patches is highly adhesive even before vulcanisation.
“During vulcanisation pressure must be exert on the patch to distribute the bonding rubber evenly.
“This is done using pressure cushions, bladders, heating hoses etc.”
