The DVSA last night (8 November) won the Digital category of the prestigious Civil Service Awards 2018 for its suite of MOT digital services.
Alex Fiddes, programme delivery executive at the DVSA, said: “I’m so proud we’ve won such a prestigious award.
“We’ve been developing ‘Get MOT reminders’ since November 2017 and have recently had our 1.3 millionth sign up.
“Our MOT history service has also been very successful with the added advantage of being able to check for recalls on a vehicle.
“Now we’ve extended the service to include buses, lorries and smaller commercial vehicles so we can make sure that all drivers keep safe on Britain’s roads.”
MOT reminders
So far more than 1.3 million vehicles have been signed up to ‘Get MOT reminders’ and more than 108.9 million MOT history checks have been carried out via the ‘Check MOT History’ service.
Stats also show that 3.8 million people have used the service to check if a vehicle or part has had a safety recall issued.
The services were launched as a key part of an MOT transformation project, which the agency says aims to make a “real difference in getting dangerous vehicles off the roads”.
Savings
The project is part of the #SmarterGov campaign which has been launched to drive innovation, savings and public service improvement across DVSA and the wider public sector.
In 2016 many independent garages were left in shock after the DVSA accepted an award for “successfully” switching test stations over to the new MOT testing service.
