Best-selling new cars of 2019 revealed

Ford’s Fiesta continues to dominate the UK as the most popular new car, according to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Seven car manufacturers are represented in the top ten for 2019 so far, with six different brands covering the top seven most popular new models for the year-to-date.

The top ten best-sellers list shows the total number of cars registered since January 1, 2019.

Most-common cars in UK

  1. Ford Fiesta
  2. Volkswagen Golf
  3. Ford Focus
  4. Vauxhall Corsa
  5. Mercedes-Benz A-class
  6. Nissan Qashqai
  7. MINI Hatch
  8. Ford Kuga
  9. Volkswagen Polo
  10. Kia Sportage

The Ford Fiesta, which was the UK’s best-selling new car in 2018, continues to top the list for 2019.

Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Golf is in a close battle with the Ford Focus for second and third spot in 2019’s best sellers.

Commenting on the steady rise of alternatively fuelled cars, SMMT chief executive, Mike Hawes said: “It’s good news to see registrations of electrified cars surging again, and 2020 will see manufacturers introduce plenty of new, exciting models to give buyers even more choice.

“Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go for these vehicles to become mainstream and, to grow uptake further, we need fiscal incentives, investment in charging infrastructure and a more confident consumer.”
