TMD Friction, through its Mintex brand, has provided support to the Youth Education Project (YEP) in Leicester, a not-for profit social enterprise that provides a diverse learning environment for young people.

YEP helps young people develop transferable skills and explore potential employment or further training opportunities.

The project has been in operation since 2003 and in addition to providing courses across media, art and design, childcare and function studies, the project offers a Motor Vehicle Studies course, which offers a pathway towards a level 1 qualification.

Featuring its own garage workshop, the course includes modules across a variety of product groups including braking, where TMD Friction will support students with technical training, brake clinics and practical demonstrations and even talks to the learners about the automotive sector.

The Mintex team has already been on site to see some of the students’ activity and provided the project with merchandise, products and helpful information to assist young mechanics in their studies.

Ken White, director of the Youth Education Project in Leicester, said: “Even the initial meeting and visit from the TMD Friction team gave everyone a real lift as it means a lot to everyone that such a prominent company in the automotive sector is taking an interest in the work we do.

“We look forward to developing our partnership further to the benefit of our students.”

Scott Irwin, head of technical training at TMD Friction, said: “It’s great to be supporting the Youth Education Project and assisting young people with their entry into the automotive sector.

“Encouraging more people into the sector is key and the project provides a practical insight into vehicle repair and maintenance, which will now benefit from the power of its braking brand Mintex.”
