Parts one and two of a new four-part chapter on a hybrid components course, nickel metal hydride batteries is now available on Our Virtual Academy.
Nickel metal hydride batteries (NiMH) have been in use since the first mass produced hybrid vehicles came off the production line in 1997, and so are commonly encountered in the workshop.
Part one of the chapter gives an introduction to NiMHs, looking at how they are constructed and the types of cells that they contain.
It also covers battery capacity, how this translates to kilowatt hours, and what this means in practical terms.
Part two covers battery monitoring and guides technicians voltage, current that flows in and out of the battery, and temperature and air cooling.
Our Virtual Academy is available online, 24 hours a day.
