BTN Turbo has released information detailing how it deals with warranty claims and how they are resolved.
Firstly, the part number is checked to ensure the part is not a counterfeit.
The BTN website explains: “The reduced price is possible because counterfeiters don’t need to invest in research and development.
“To reduce costs further they tend to use cheaper, inferior materials and that can be extremely dangerous.”
After the unit has been confirmed as genuine, the warranty department inspects for obvious faults such as damaged turbine blades and vanes.
The blades rotate at up to 360,000 rpm which means even a tiny part sucked into the turbo can cause terminal damage.
The majority of failures are oil-related, and diagnosis usually requires BTN’s specialist test equipment.
The warranty department takes photos to document the damage and a report details the cause – usually oil contamination, starvation or leaks.
If the fault is down to the manufacturer, the turbo is replaced.
All turbos supplied by BTN are 100 per cent OE, and come with a two-year warranty.
