A new report suggests that women pay 13 per cent less than men for the same car repairs.
The study, which was carried out by insurance company Sheilas’ Wheels, also found that dark or red-haired women tend to receive the most competitive quotes.
The research involved 51 men, 50 women and 101 independent garages.
Each garage gave quotes for a ‘minor service’ and to fit new brake pads or a new alternator on a 2011 Ford Fiesta.
The findings put the average minor service repair cost at £106 a men, compared to the average price of £94 for a woman.
Men aged 60 and over were quoted 32 per cent more to change an alternator, 26 per cent more for a ‘minor service’ and 17 per cent more to fit pads.
On average, the men were asked to pay £258, while the 60+ women were only asked for £196 for the work.
The older men were also charged 26 per cent more for a basic service and 17 per cent more to fit a new set of brake pads than older women.
The findings dispel the stereotypical belief that women ‘are charged more’ at garages but what do you make of the findings? Please leave your comments below.
