IAAF’s inaugural summer conference a success

The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) successfully held its first-ever Summer Conference on 12 June at the prestigious Belfry Hotel and Spa.

The event brought together industry leaders, experts, and enthusiasts to discuss crucial topics and challenges facing the automotive aftermarket sector.

The conference agenda emphasised key areas for industry growth:

  • Effective recruitment strategies: Attracting new talent is critical as the industry evolves with new technologies.
  • Training investments: Equipping current and future workforces with the skills required for future vehicles and regulations.
  • Customer-driven transformation: Prioritising customer experience and understanding evolving customer needs.
  • Future-proofing for emerging technologies: Adapting to advancements like electric vehicles and AI.

Keynote addresses and panel discussions

  • Mark Field, IAAF Chief Executive: Field underscored the need to attract new talent to maintain industry innovation.
  • Glen Shepherd, Director of Glen Callum Associates: Shepherd addressed the evolving recruitment landscape and strategies for attracting and retaining talent, including embracing transferable skills.
  • Alan Scott, Training Director of ASC WebCoach: Scott highlighted the benefits of training initiatives like WebCoach, emphasising its impact on employee performance and integration.
  • Hamish Taylor, Keynote Speaker: Taylor’s keynote focused on unlocking organisational potential through a customer-centric approach, urging companies to prioritise customer experience and reframe value propositions.
  • NAPA Racing UK Drivers Dan Rowbottom and Ash Sutton: The drivers shared insights and tips for aspiring racers.
  • Mark Armitage, AutoTech Group: Armitage discussed the need to adapt to new technologies, alternative vehicles, and evolving work models. He emphasised the importance of inclusivity and open recruitment strategies to attract and retain talent.
  • East Coast College Panel Discussion: This discussion featured lecturer Matthew Yeldham, students Brandon Bourton, Tia Marsh, and Freddy Hewitt, who shared their experiences and perspectives on entering the industry, with a call for a more inclusive and welcoming environment.

Mark Field concluded the conference by thanking sponsors and attendees. The event fostered networking opportunities through an evening BBQ and the following day’s annual Golf Day, promoting collaboration within the industry.
