Car owner challenges dealership over needing an alignment
Public need for wheel-alignment supposedly on the increase.

A recent TikTok video posted by a young woman named Riley (@rileyjoceo) has gone viral, shedding light on the sometimes perplexing world of workshops and mechanics. Riley recounted her experience at a dealership while getting her car serviced, specifically when the mechanic suggested she needed an alignment.

The conversation went like this:

Mechanic: “You need to get your car realigned.”

Riley: “What’s an alignment, sir?”

Mechanic: “Well, basically, it keeps your car going straight when your hands aren’t on the wheel.”

Riley: “Why would I need that done? In what scenario am I driving my car where my hands aren’t on the wheel?”

Riley (adding in her TikTok video): “Like I am the alignment.”

Riley’s witty response (tongue in cheek or not) highlights the common disconnect between mechanics and car owners. While the mechanic tried to explain the technical details, Riley humorously pointed out that she’s always in control of her steering wheel. After all, who needs an alignment when they are the alignment?

It just goes to show how the obvious isn’t always necessarily apparent to everyone, and that ‘explain it like I’m a five-year-old’ can often be the best way to get across the intricacies of vehicle mechanics.

  1. So she carried on none the wiser and died. The “Mechanic” should have explained the procedure properly.

  2. Well, um, not the best explanation of wheel alignment from the garage but a typical Gen Z response – Not “Sorry not really understanding this?” but straight into the garage guy’s an idiot and trying to rip me off!! If she truly has an alignment issue then she’ll be sorry when she need more tyres in no time and only herself to blame
