A transporter lorry carrying a range of classic cars, including a ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ General Lee, a ‘Transformers’ Ford Mustang and a ‘Batmobile’, caught fire on Wednesday, 23 May – leaving a number of the vehicles badly damaged.
Driving experience company Car Chase Heroes, which specialises in iconic movie cars, said six vehicles have been damaged in the motorway blaze, reports the Telegraph.
The transporter was travelling westbound on the M4 near Bath, Somerset when the driver realised there was an issue.
“The driver smelt burning and pulled the transporter over immediately, upon opening the door he saw flames climbing the back of the cab and jumped out straight away leaving all of his belongings inside,” said a spokesperson for Car Chase Heroes.
“By the time he ran to a safe distance and turned around, the entire cab was engulfed in flames.
“The cars damaged were a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Barricade Mustang Police car, an MX5 Racecar and KITT, the Pontiac Firebird from Knightrider.”
Fortunately nobody was hurt in the fire which the company says caused around £70,000 worth of damage.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
