First Line is promoting awareness of its BMW crankcase breather hoses which are currently available through its distribution network.

First Line offers an essential range of six crankcase breather hose references to fit BMW applications, covering the 3, 5 and 7 Series, Z3, Z4 and X3, X5 models.

The hoses are manufactured from original equipment (OE) specified materials to ensure premium quality at all times and are supplied as a complete assembly unit, including locating clip and hose clamp quick release.

They also benefit from the company’s two-year/24,000-mile warranty.

First Line global marketing director, Jon Roughley said: “We know there is a demand from the independent repairers for these, however they need to know where they can get them from, otherwise they will just go straight to the dealer for this type of product.

“We support our distributors and encourage them to create awareness, which in turn will genertate sales, and repairers are urged to contact their local motor factors for all product requests in the first instance, as new products are continually being made available each and every month and huge savings can be made vs going to the main dealers.”

Crankcase ventilation

Crankcase ventilation is central to modern engine design to both avoid the build-up of excess pressure and vent the by-products of engine combustion through the inlet manifold via a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve.

This regulates the evacuation of the gases and ensures the engine is running to its optimum efficiency, thus reducing its emissions, whereas old vehicles vented these combustion by-products into the atmosphere, impacting the environment.

However, the hoses from the crankcase to the PCV valve can get clogged with oil deposits and also turn brittle and split due to the constant heat cycles they have to endure, a process that is often accelerated by cold weather.

Failed breather hose symptoms

First Line say symptoms of a clogged or failed breather hose that technicians need to look out for include poor idling, lack of power/responsiveness, oil fumes and oil leaks.

First Line Ltd provides the independent aftermarket with a wide range of over 40,000 products, including specialising in steering and suspension, braking, clutch, wheel bearings, cables, filters and more.
