Using diagnostics to fix Audi A3 2.0 TFSI EML issue

Complaint

The customer states the check engine light is illuminated on their 2018 Audi A3 2.0 TFSI.

Cause

Connected a scan tool and found codes: P00AF – Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control ‘A’ Module Performance and P2563 – Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor ‘A’ Circuit Range/Performance.

Performed a road test while monitoring live data on the scan tool and found the turbocharger wastegate actuator position sensor was not within the specified range.

Performed a visual inspection of the turbocharger and found no faults. With the key on, and engine off, used the scan tool to command the turbocharger wastegate actuator on and found the actuator was inoperative.

Performed a visual inspection of the turbocharger wastegate actuator and found the actuator was damaged. These test results verified the turbocharger wastegate actuator was faulty.

Correction

Replaced the turbocharger wastegate actuator, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The check engine light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
