One unlucky lady on Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert site shared her MOT nightmare. Allegedly, she paid for an MOT, which never occurred.

She only found out after randomly checking her MOT status on the Govermnet portal months later, with the site saying her MOT had expired.

The original garage was closed at the time she realised, but it still had an ‘MOT’ sign outside; so she took her car elsewhere to have an MOT carried out once again.

Between 2021 and 2022, the DVSA recorded 1324 cases of MOT fraud.

The DVSA banned 288 Authorised Examiners from the MOT scheme and 127 Authorised Examiners from operating Vehicle Testing Stations in 2021.

185 Tester cases and 85 Authorised Examiner cases involving the most serious crimes, such dishonesty, and gross negligence as a result.

    • MOT certificates are no longer routinely printed, we rarely give out paperwork now.
