Outperforming the competitors in dust emission, noise, and pedal consistency

Delphi brakes shine in independent OE test

Delphi has emerged top in independent Original Equipment (OE) brake testing, outperforming several top brands in key areas. The tests compared Delphi’s non-asbestos organic (NAO) ceramic and low-metallic pads against six other leading brands.

“We’re proud to lead the industry with braking products that not only meet but exceed the highest standards,” said Carl Lester, Global Product Line Manager at Delphi. “These results are a testament to the quality and reliability of Delphi brakes.”

The comprehensive testing involved six vehicles and rigorous conditions designed to simulate real-world driving scenarios. Four Mercedes A-Class cars were used in Mojacar, Spain, a location known for its dry climate and minimal rain, providing ideal testing grounds.

Dust emission testing, a major concern for both drivers and the environment, saw Delphi’s NAO pads outperform all competitors. Vehicles with Delphi pads generated significantly less dust during a 4,000km test drive across a challenging mixed-terrain course.

“This translates to less wear on the brakes, reduced environmental impact, and significant cost savings for vehicle owners,” said Carl. “Notably, Delphi’s low metallic pads outperformed several premium brands, producing half the dust.”

Delphi brakes also excelled in noise testing, achieving a near-silent rating of 9.8 on a 10-point scale (with 10 being completely silent). This exceptional performance is attributed to a special 3mm noise-absorbing underlayer.

“Delphi brake pads benefit from a special noise-absorbing 3mm underlayer,” said Carl. “It reduces noise above 70db by 83 per cent and heat transfer to the brake fluid by up to 22 per cent, preventing it from boiling and helping to maintain effective braking.”

Finally, Delphi impressed in pedal consistency tests. Drivers experienced zero deviation in pedal feel, stroke, and initial response.

“Braking consistency is key to driver confidence, which is why the feel of the pedal underfoot should be predictable and reliable,” said Carl. “Delphi had the most consistent results with zero deviations across the board.”
