WAECO warn of new EU F-Gas regulation phase

Significant reduction in R134a import quotas necessitates strategic adaptation

WAECO warn of new EU F-Gas regulation phase

The EU’s F-gas regulation, effective since 2015, targets a reduction in fluorinated greenhouse gases and has progressively decreased import quotas for R134a refrigerant.

As of 1 January this year, the regulation further intensified as the quota dropped to just 31% of the 2015 quantity—a 14% decrease from 2023.

While newer car models utilise the less harmful R1234yf, R134a remains essential for older vehicles. The impending quota reduction is expected to cause a scarcity and price surge for R134a throughout 2024 – especially during ‘air con season’, which we’re now in.

To mitigate these challenges and continue offering cost-efficient A/C servicing, investing in a Low Emission service unit is WAECO’s recommended step. Being proactive will ensure customer satisfaction and service quality despite the regulatory changes.
