More than 3,000 motorists failed to turn up for a pre-booked MOT test at a testing centre in Northern Ireland in 2022/23.
This is according to figures released last week.
The data shows that 3,269 slots were wasted at the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) Coleraine inspection centre – up from 2,191 in the previous year.
Across Northern Ireland, 50,776 appointments were missed in 2022/23, which comes after the chief executive of the DVA said motorists face an average wait of 72 days for MOT tests.
In March, cracks were found in several MOT testing lifts in Northern Ireland, raising concerns over the safety of testers and the knock-on effect it will have on drivers waiting for a test.
