Autodata has been working in partnership with various trading standards authorities for a number of years to prevent and detect the use of illicit versions of its software in workshops across the UK.
The use of such software can lead to inaccurate repairs on vehicles and has the potential to cause serious damage, resulting in possible financial and safety implications.
The CTSI’s Conference and Exhibition 2015, which took place last week in Bournemouth, saw Autodata promote examples of best practice and generate awareness of the threat this poses to the aftermarket industry and vehicle owners.
Autodata’s Technical Liaison and Licensing Manager, Malcolm Rixon, said: “In addition to presenting the success of our programme and highlighting our battle against IP fraud, it provides us with a platform to encourage more authorities to perform local garage checks and protect unknowing customers and legitimate businesses.”
Through its brand enforcements agency, French Solutions Ltd, Autodata has visited over 500 garages to date and has been successful in identifying and removing many counterfeit copies from use.
