The Test Centre advises how to spot fraudulent garages

The Test Centre responds to our previous news story relating to a motorist who unkowingly paid for an MOT that never happened, only to discover months later that their MOT had lapsed – Click here for the original story.

We are deeply disappointed to hear of this fraud in the MOT industry.

We take our responsibility to our customers seriously, not only to ensure customer vehicles are safe and roadworthy but also to ensure all our customers receive an honest & reliable service.

Trust between us and our customers is a priority. So, we want to help vehicle owners find a reliable and legitimate garage to get their MOT. Here are some simple steps to follow when choosing a garage:

☑️Search for the company and check their website. Here you can check the location and view it on a map and street view. You can also check their policy and company registered number.

☑️Read company reviews and feedback on Google, or Trust Pilot. The reviews on TrustPilot are verified so its’s great if they have a selection with both sources. It’s important to try and find multiple reviews, you can’t just trust 1 or 2 reviews.

☑️Check the company is registered for testing here.

It’s always best to use official Government websites where possible rather than third parties. Remember, the MOT scheme is regulated by the Government; Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) so the information is verified.

Finally, check your MOT status here before you leave. It is a live system, so its updated as soon as your test is finished.

Let’s clean up the roads together!
