A man has appeared in court after being accused of stealing his own car from a garage in Pembrokeshire.

It’s alleged that Ian Roberts, a 63-year-old man from Fishguard, stole his Volkswagen Passat after leaving it at Goodwick Motor Services on 1 December 2022.

Roberts denies the charge, with his solicitor telling Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court that his client had arranged to collect the car at 5pm the same day.

His solicitor said: “There was an arrangement for him to take it at 5pm, and this was known by the garage and had been agreed to.

“My client accepts that his vehicle was in the garage, but the arrangement had been made to collect it.”

Roberts was released on unconditional bail and will appear at Swansea Crown Court on 2 February.

    • If the garage had not been paid for any work carried out on that vehicle then the garage has a right of lien on that vehicle. If the owner then takes that vehicle without payment then he has stolen it.
Obviously his solicitor knows more about this case than we do or they wouldn’t entertain going to court.

  2. The same happened to me, Customer complained about his invoice on a Saturday afternoon , Garage closed until Monday, I came in on Sunday to find my 8ft Gate padlocked and chained had been cut and the customer had stolen his own vehicle , Police called , customer admitted theft and cutting the chain with bolt cutters, all the police did was get him to replace the chain ……. I am still waiting nearly 3 years for a court hearing to recover the £1600.00 owing
