A study has found that as well as more than half of UK motorists not knowing what a brake warning light means, 45 per cent of motorists would not know how to check tyre tread depth.
Research carried out by, UK motor retailer, JCT 600 asked 1,000 British motorists from across the country.
More statistics showed that 4.2 per cent of motorists thought the brake warning light symbol meant “push the foot brake.”
Another 6.5 per cent thought the symbol meant they should restart the engine and 17.4 per cent thought it was prompting them to top up the oil.
For 1.3 per cent of motorists, they believed it meant “continue your journey as normal.”
