The incident occurred on the A148 Holt Bypass, at 10.30am on Tuesday (April 30).

Cook, an ex-soldier, was first on the scene, having heard the lorry’s horn and the collision. The victim, a man believed to be in his sixties or seventies, was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in a critical condition. Cook, who initially thought the lorry had hit another vehicle, stayed with the man until paramedics arrived.

Despite the victim’s initial lack of response, Cook noted some movement in his hands before leaving the scene. The lorry driver, a young man, was reportedly very distressed.
