This shocking footage shows the terrifying moment HGV driver, David Monaghan, escaped serious injury after a van driving on the opposite side of the road lost part of its load.
The 62-year-old HGV driver managed to duck down just in time, narrowly avoiding the metal construction which smashed through the windscreen of his truck, while safely bringing the truck to a stop.
The incident took place in Shrewsbury as David was travelling to work.
He escaped with only minor cuts to the back of his head.
David said: “I still can’t believe it happened – I thought I was dead.

“I had two seconds to make a decision and luckily it was the right one.
“I managed to put my foot on the brake, the clutch, keep my hand on the steering wheel and duck down. I don’t know how I did it.
“But I am so glad I did because I keep thinking about what might have happened if my lorry would have flown on to that roundabout.
“I could have piled into a number of other cars, I could have killed countless others.”
