Used car dealer found to have clocked vehicles, forge documents and intentionally 'misdescribe' cars

Car dealer pleads guilty to selling clocked cars
A used car dealer and a vehicle technician have pleaded guilty to fraud following an investigation.

Used car dealer, Connan Alexander Harvey, 28, formerly trading as Alex Harvey Specialist Cars, Priors Marston, admitted to arranging for the mileage on an Audi TT to be reduced from 101,369 to 72,299.

He also admitted to selling another Audi TT which was advertised with 79,000 when in reality it had covered 147,464 miles.

Another vehicle was sold as having good tyres, a new cam belt and a 12 month MOT but the buyer later found that none of these statement were true.

The belt hadn’t been recently changed, the MOT had just two months left and the tyres were close to their legal limit.

Warwickshire County Councillor John Horner, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety said: “This was a very serious case whereby consumers, some of whom had saved long and hard to afford a car, were defrauded out of many thousands of pounds.”

Amit Mistry of Timkin Way Daventry, a 38-year-old mechanic used by Harvey, also admitted to fabricating or altering vehicle documents.

Both are to be sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on March 2, 2016.
