A fire involving an electric vehicle led to the closure of a Wiltshire car dealer over the weekend.

Several fire crews attended the blaze in the workshop at Swindon Audi, where they found an electric car on fire. The cause of the fire has been confirmed as accidental.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival, crews found a fire within a vehicle workshop involving an electric vehicle.

“Eight breathing apparatus wearers used main lines and mechanical ventilation to extinguish the fire and at the height of the incident eight pumping appliances were in attendance from Westlea, Swindon, Stratton, Marlborough [and] Royal Wootton Bassett, along with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Swindon and support unit from Devizes.“

Confirming the closure on social media, a spokesperson for the dealership said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances Swindon Audi is temporarily closed.

“Colleagues remain on hand to assist with your enquiries via telephone, email and through our website.

“If your vehicle is currently with us for service, you have a future appointment or you have purchased a vehicle, one of our team will be in touch to discuss this further with you.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
