A mechanic from Ireland has been named the country’s biggest defaulter, as the Revenue Commissioners publishes its latest list of tax dodgers.
Eamonn Galligan from Co Monaghan owes a total of €1.864m, which includes €712,000 tax, interest of €446,000 and penalties of €705,000. None of the money has been paid, the Revenue Commissioners said.
It’s by far the biggest settlement of the quarter; the second highest, which involves a haulage company from Co Kildare, amounts to €1.060m.
Although the Revenue Commissioners office “vigorously pursues collection/enforcement on unpaid settlements“, if a company goes bust it may not be possible to recover the full amount.
