Adam Morgan and his WIX Filtration backed Ciceley Motorsport prepared Mercedes-Benz A-Class won the final race at Brands Hatch in the opening weekend of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Starting from second on the grid, and carrying 27 kilos of success ballast, Adam chased pole-man Sam Tordoff’s fast-starting, rear-wheel-drive BMW into the first corner.
The two ran nose to tail for the opening lap but a great effort by Adam at the end of the opening lap let him prise open the door on the inside line as they flashed past the pits.
Adam stood his ground under braking for the right-hander of Paddock Hill Bend and passed on the inside to secure the lead.
A safety car period allowed the pack to close up on to the tail of the WIX Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class ready for the restart.
Adam headed Tordoff and a second BMW 125i M Sport of Jack Goff but with Adam running the soft tyre, his rubber was expected to deteriorate late in the race affecting his pace.
However, Adam managed the tyre situation magnificently to look after the tyre life and maintain his lead to the chequered flag for a third career win.
Adam said: “It was a tough race with the BMWs behind me but the car had good pace and we improved that over the weekend so I knew that I had the machinery to do the job in the last race.”
