A drink-driving car mechanic and MOT tester from Scarborough who hit speeds of up to 100mph as he fled from the police has been handed an eight-month prison sentence.
Ronnie Harrison, 23, appeared at York Crown Court charged with dangerous driving, having appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court for refusing to provide a sample for analysis when police suspected he had been drinking.
The court appearances followed a chase in September 2022, when Harrison drove at speeds of 70mph through small towns and villages, and a confirmed 100mph in Carnaby, East Yorkshire.
Although police lost sight of Harrison’s Volkswagen Passat, it was later found in a hedge as the offender attempted to make his escape on foot.
Appearing before magistrates charged with failing to provide a sample upon request, Harrison was given a community order and a 17-month driving ban.
Harrison, who has five previous offences, appeared at Crown Court charged with dangerous driving. Judge Simon Hickey told him “you knew you were over the limit” and described his initial denials as “ludicrous”.
He will serve four months of his prison sentence before being released on license, but was given an additional 12-month driving ban.
