Leading cabin filter supplier Corteco, says that sales of air and fuel filters outstrip sales of cabin filters despite being listed as part of the manufacturers service schedule.
“Cabin filter sales at garage level could be as high as 30 per cent of total filter sales, but in practice, it is often nearer ten per cent,” says sales and marketing manager Steve Jarnet.
“Dealers exploit the opportunities better than some motor factors and garages.
“Their cabin filter sales are closer to 45 per cent, on average.
“They trade-up and often recommend more frequent replacement at periods of high pollution or when the pollen count begins to climb.
An opportunity to exploit
“It’s a potential growth area that we hope to help independent garages to exploit.”
Corteco say that while competition is tough, once customers arrive they should be offered the opportunity to opt for a premium cabin filter.
Steve Jarnet added: “Our experience is that once a driver understands the benefits and has been offered the upgrade to a premium filter, they will usually say yes and will generally insist on similar replacements in the future.”
