New sensor calibration tool to future-proof businesses, says Hella
The Hella Gutman CSC tool.

Developed by Hella Gutmann to work in conjunction with the mega macs range of diagnostic devices, the new camera and sensor calibration (CSC) tool communicates with the vehicle’s camera or radar system.

The sensors for these in-car technologies are normally fitted to the vehicle’s windscreen, incorporated into the rear view mirror, or the radar sensor located near the front grille.

Calibration is critical to ensure that safety systems, such as the adaptive cruise control, lane departure, autonomous emergency braking and intelligent lighting technologies are all correctly aligned.

‘Sophisticated systems’

Announcing the launch of its latest testing equipment, Hella Gutman said in a press release: “Sensor and cameras for all of these sophisticated systems must be calibrated and adjusted with the utmost precision.

“Failure to do so can result in a slight shift in position of the radar head or camera in relation to the geometric axle can cause the system to fail, or of even more concern, can deliver incorrect results.”

Following an accident repair or maintenance, the company explains that steering will be misaligned when it comes to recognising the car’s position in relation to the road even though the it may be correctly repaired from a mechanical perspective.

“With many garages looking to future proof their business, it isn’t an option to ‘opt out’, they must invest in the latest equipment to keep pace with the rapidly advancing technologies,” Hella Gutman concludes.
